Birgit Umaigba is an award-winning Registered Nurse, public speaker, change agent, transformational leader, nurse consultant and health equity activist. She is a disruptive thinker and a fierce advocate for social justice, anti-racist healthcare and education, nurse wage increases, improvements to labor conditions and the increased employment of Internationally Educated Health Care Nurses (IENs) across Canada. Her advocacy and scholarship have focused on promoting a healthcare system where Black, Indigenous, and Racialized peoples are represented in leadership positions. She has published opinion pieces on these and related subjects in media outlets both nationally and internationally. She regularly serves as a consultant and speaker for a variety of audiences in healthcare, women’s equity, anti-racism and immigration. She spoke as a guest speaker at the 2022 Martin Luther King Global Summit.
